Introduction
Hello All,
I had planned to build a website with Ajax, simply because I was impressed by the looks and the interactivity of an Ajax based web page. In fact, there are quite a lot of awesome open source libraries available on the internet. To name a few, prototype and scriptaculous are simply great. With the help of these well documented scripts any mediocre programmer can build an awesome web page. Well time was something that I was running short of. Finally, I decided to hop back to Drupal. Well, I was quite impressed by the fact that Drupal has progressed a long way. The latest release 5.1 is quite stable. The php scripts can be easily modified as they are well documented. Guess what, Drupal community is already working on Ajax and have already built modules to make use of the scriptaculous libraries. I kinda feel better now. For someone who is busy and also lazy like me, Drupal is the best.
Prabhu DC | Gallery | Beta
I finally got my Ajax engined gallery up. It is still in its beta stages for the reason that I am yet to load all the snaps. Also there is a lot of rework to be done on the front end. The hectic work schedule is not giving me the opportunity to advance.
I have got Javascript and HTML on the front end and php at the back end to reply to me asynchronous request. For the special effects on displaying the images I have used the Lightbox module. If you wish to have more information on the design, you could always visit my blog here. Don't refrain from posting any comments if you have any queries or if you come across a bug.
What am I doing nowadays
Well, I have been working off late in an Indian firm named TCS. TCS specializes in providiving software services on a global scale. Currently I am am working with a client named Target based in minneapolis. It is a neat project and I am fortunately learning a lot of technologies in this project.
Datastage Datastagewas initially built by Ascential and has now been bought out by IBM. Datastage is basically an ETL(Extraction , Transformation and Loading) tool which is used to deal with large volumes of data at an enterprise level. It enables obtaining data from various sources, cleaning it and loading into various data marts as required for the business in a matter of few drags and drops. Currently IBM release datastage with websphere packaged along. There are also quite a few certifications in this field. IBM and Informatica are the biggest contenders for ETL tools in the market. | SAS SAS is a tool widely used for Statistical analysis and forecasting. SAS was built and completely owned by SAS software systems. SAS is known to be hot currently in the market, and I am lucky to be one who is aware of the basic concepts of SAS. SAS can be used to derive graphs from analyzing multiple variables from an input data. It can process input data from multiple formats. Well, the software is hell expensive. I have been told that the training version itself is approximately Rs.10 lakhs. That ain't a joke! There are multiple certifications that SAS systems provide starting with the certification for Base SAS v9. It is an amazing tool although it involves a lot of coding (Well we are software geeks, code to us is like meat to a hungry wolf). | Microstrategy Microstrategy is a complete GUI based reporting tool. It works on a 3 tier architecture and can connect to databases. Microstrategy has a concept of intelligent cubes for efficiently generating reports. This tool demands a good 2 gigs of RAM for working fine. It does not install in XP and requires Server edition. |
Humans|Place in the Universe
Hi All,
This is just my thoughts and belief about humans and their place in the universe. Each one of us have an illusion or misconception that we are very important and everyone around us are unimportant. This kind of a thought exists deep down in each one of our minds. A typical example would be death. Suppose some one tells the word death, what would be your first reaction. It would of-course be "who" and "How did it happen". Well we all deep down inside believe that it can never happen to us. That is what human beings are about.
We all think the petty frivolous incidents happening in our day to day lives are so important. What we don't realize is that there are big things happening out there. There are events like planets being formed, stars getting consumed, we too are a part of a significant happening called evolution. We humans are like robots evolution built us and we are made to think and act the way we are coded in our genes. Evolution has made us and will of course take us. If we consider the life times of other species that lived on earth prior to Humans, the time period since we have been here is almost negligible. Moreover we worry about things like money, comfort. At the same time we could be having a Comet hurling its way to earth. Talk about comfort!!!
Humans are a race who can rather be considered successful. In this short span of 4.5 million years we have defied forces starting with gravity to his own genetics itself. We are in a position to create the first mutant baby, its only religions and Politics that are stopping it. Rumors are that it has already been done in secrecy.
Vista on my Lappy
I finally installed Vista on my lappy. Although I am against Microsoft I finally managed to get Vista installed on my lappy. It looks pretty cool.
From my little experience I would say that Vista does not have much for a normal user. One thing I really found amazing is the search utility. It is like they have a good "Google Desktop search" inbuilt into the OS. The OS took 8.5 gigs of my hard disc. I wonder what is in there to take up so much memory. In terms of speed it looks quite slow on my 512MB RAM. The looks is where Vista has dominated. (Yeah! I don't think you would think so if you saw Beryl on Ubuntu).
